Neuralgia

Neuralgia refers to pain that arises directly from a damaged, irritated, or dysfunctional nerve, rather than from injury to muscles, bones, or other tissues. It typically presents as sharp, stabbing, burning, or electric shock-like pain along the path of the affected nerve, and may be triggered by light touch, temperature changes, or even without any clear stimulus. Common causes include infections such as shingles, nerve compression, diabetes, trauma, or degenerative changes affecting the nerve. Unlike typical pain that fades as tissue heals, neuralgia can persist or worsen over time if the underlying nerve irritation isn’t addressed. With appropriate treatment—including medications, nerve blocks, and minimally invasive procedures—neuralgia pain can be effectively managed and significantly reduced.

Non Surgical Treatment For NEURALGIA

Non-surgical treatment of neuralgia focuses on calming the irritated nerve, interrupting abnormal pain signals, and preventing the pain from becoming chronic. Treatment typically begins with nerve-stabilizing medications such as anticonvulsants or antidepressants, which are specifically effective for nerve-related pain rather than routine painkillers. Topical therapies, including lidocaine patches or capsaicin cream, can provide localized relief for superficial nerve pain. Nerve block injections deliver targeted, fast-acting pain relief and can also help pinpoint the exact source of the problem. Radiofrequency ablation is used to disrupt pain signals from the affected nerve for longer-term relief, while pulsed radiofrequency therapy offers a gentler option that calms the nerve without damaging it. Physical therapy and addressing underlying causes, such as blood sugar control in diabetic neuropathy, further support long-term recovery. Together, these image-guided, minimally invasive treatments help most patients achieve significant pain relief without the need for surgery.
